Cascais & Estoril

Palace courtyards, painted azulejo and the open Atlantic — a day that ran from the gardens of Cascais to the rocks below Estoril.

Blue tile, white stone, grey sea

The coast west of Lisbon gives you three backgrounds within a few kilometres: the painted tile of the old palaces, the white arcades of their courtyards, and the Atlantic breaking on black rock.

A gown reads differently against each. The same dress that looks architectural under an arch looks weightless on the sand an hour later — which is the argument for shooting a collection in one day, in one place, rather than in a studio.
